Trigence Partners With High Performance Computing Virtual Lab (HPCVL) To Test Application Virtualization Software Solution in Utility Computing Environment

Jersey City, NJ and Ottawa, ON – March 15, 2007 – Trigence, the leader in virtualization at the application level, today announced that the High Performance Computing Virtual Lab (HPCVL) has completed initial performance testing of its newest version of Trigence AE on one of the largest secure utility computing environments in North America.

HPCVL provides high-speed computations for more than 600 researchers and 130 research groups in fields such as population health, photonics, psychology, economics and civil engineering. HPCVL has recently invested significant time and resources in building one of the largest, most secure utility computing environments in North America. As a result, it has become a vital component of the research environment that researchers across Canada rely upon to ensure their competitiveness in their respective industries.

“HPCVL continuously strives to ensure that elements of our high performance computing environment are available to private and public organizations beyond the current academic researchers,” said Dr. Ken Edgecombe, executive director, HPCVL. “We are happy to provide Trigence with access to a large-scale computing environment that they would not have otherwise had. By collaborating with Trigence, we’re able to provide our researchers with additional services and demonstrate the real-world benefits that other organizations can derive from application virtualization.”

Trigence AE encapsulates, separates, and moves applications and dependencies from their underlying operating systems and infrastructure while dramatically driving down the costs associated with enterprise application configuration management. With Trigence, legacy and newly developed applications are virtualized and encapsulated as single files, easing the burden of application configuration management and permitting safe, easy movement from old-to-new, same-to-same, or similar-to-similar operating systems versions while keeping the application's original dependencies intact. This is a vital component in enabling applications to be easily moved onto a utility computing environment.

“Corporations in arguably every industry are increasingly evaluating hosted, or utility-based computing platforms to increase efficiencies, while reducing costs,” said Donn Rochette, CTO of Trigence. “Under this scenario, organizations must be able to run their applications where they want, when they want and on any computing platform. By utilizing the HPCVL environment, Trigence has successfully demonstrated its ability to virtualize dozens of scientific and research software applications on one of the largest and most secure multi-processor server-based networks in North America. This testing completed by HPCVL’s researchers proves the reliability and scalability of the Trigence AE solution.”

About HPCVL
The High Performance Computing Virtual Laboratory (HPCVL) was formed by a consortium of four Ontario universities (Carleton University, Queen's University, The Royal Military College of Canada, and the University of Ottawa). Ryerson University and Seneca College in Toronto and Loyalist college in Belleville have since joined as member institutions. HPCVL is dedicated to providing researchers at member institutions and selected researchers from elsewhere in Canada with the High Performance Computing (HPC) resources they need to conduct innovative research in a broad spectrum of disciplines.
